Glock 42 Suppressed - Good morning dear readers. Welcome to Quiet Saturday, where the good keg wire is the keg. Today we're going to take a quick look at the joys of finding suppressed pocket pistols - specifically the GLOCK 43 with the Thompson Machine Poseidon. Thankfully, the weather is improving here in God's Country - which means it's time to keep an eye on reviews and exterior images over pure white backgrounds.
I often describe the suffering that is Silencerose as a form of evolution. While new buyers tend to focus on the quietest possible setup, veteran owners want to suppress every gun they own with a mission-appropriate suppressor, even if it means sacrificing decibels for a smaller package. There's no way the GLOCK 43 could be suppressed from a small pocket pistol, but I decided to find a perfectly sized 9mm silencer - Thompson Machine's Poseidon meets all of the G43's needs.

The beauty of most microcans is that they generally don't need a booster (Nielsen device) to help cycle barrel action revolvers. This saves weight, cost, and most importantly length by trying to build a package that is as compact as possible. You need a threaded keg, but I bought a SilencerCo keg from Brownells.
The Thompson Poseidon is a hybrid silencer that uses a short monocore baffle system followed by a single rubber sweep. The wiper is good for 40-100 rounds before needing to be replaced, but the beauty of a hybrid box with a monocore is that it keeps firing without a working wiper, just reducing the squelch levels.

Measuring 4.125 inches long by 1.25 inches in diameter and weighing 3.8 ounces, the Poseidon offers sound suppression comparable to industry-leading silencers at twice the size and weight. Using artificial environment and technology with a proprietary mono-baffle stack, Poseidon has a unique design that helps seal in end-user preferences until the suppressor is used. Thus, it avoids the main disadvantages of moisture barriers. In other words, your nasty media won't end up in your pocket! As an added selling point, the Thompson Machine Poseidon is a true multi-caliber silencer and is very silent on a variety of .22lr, .25acp, .32acp, 9x18mm and .380acp firearms. Poseidon assembles easily and completely for cleaning and includes the necessary disassembly tools at no extra cost. The Poseidon 9mm is available in 1/2-28, 1/2-36 or 13.5x1LH thread patterns.

Mufflers like the Poseidon work best when wet (using a repulsive medium to condense and cool the expanding gases). You all still owe ablative means comparisons, but I currently prefer in-house made DB foam for the sole reason of keeping the soil inside the muffler rather than draining it out. Filling Poseidon with DB Foam lasts 12 rounds, blocking less with each subsequent shot.
Sure, Rubber Cleaner takes a beating, but it holds up better than you'd expect. Unfortunately, ATF considers wipers to be silent parts, so replacing them yourself isn't technically allowed (though it's a simple process). However, any FFL can order replacement cleaners from Thomson and have them installed for you in less than a minute.
I really enjoy firing this range of Federal Premium Syntech bullets - it's clean and quiet, remaining subsonic in all but the longest barrels. The Hydra-Shock is a supersonic projectile, but is best suited to the G43 as a personal protection projectile.
There are three chambers in the monocore Poseidon, with subsonic bullets and just enough liquid or bubbles to keep it quiet.

When using the right ammo, the Thomson Poseidon is as quiet as any quality full-size silencer. It's small, light and easy to maintain. After all, from a wallet-sized subcompact gun, it's a lot of fun in a small package.
We fired Clearballistics 300 AAC 188gr ammo from an AR15.com with a 1.7″ twist 8″ barrel into Clearballistics ballistic gel to measure velocity, penetration, expansion/shrinkage, and weight.

Learning The Science Behind Silencers On The Range With Silencerco
Switzerland's B&T AG (formerly Brügger & Thomet AG) has launched a new silencer aimed at the .380 subcompact market. The suppressor attaches to the barrel of a Glock 42 or SIG P238 pistol. Designed to be smaller than other mufflers, it still offers a 28db hearing-safe noise reduction (same as earplugs). B&T released a short but satisfying video of the new product on its YouTube channel:
A unique hex wrench is used to replace the rubber wiper at the end of the suppressor, a design feature included to minimize can size as much as possible. Details are given below:
