glock 42 size comparison

Glock 42 Size Comparison - Perhaps the most anticipated rifle of SHOT Show 2014 and perhaps the entire year is the Glock 42 .380 auto. Of course, the #1 gun comment isn't this - the 9mm pistol. Glock says, "Years of demand from all market groups for a highly concealable, reliable single-stack GLOCK pistol resulted in extensive research and development to bring the G42 to the GLOCK customer." I would ask that most of those customer requests be chambered in .380. Despite the quality debate, the gun itself is a new generation in the Glock family. The frame has been lowered and simplified in several ways, creating the G42 Glock's answer to the pocket pistol market, which has been single-stack, sub-frame offerings by other manufacturers for the last 5-6 years. A weapon suitable for concealed carry.

I was lucky enough to purchase a G42 from High Mountain Hunting Supply at a local gun store. Borrower came with limited ammo and every source in town sold .380 autos without the expensive flavors of defense. Although my range was short due to my lack of ammunition, I accepted the size and shape of the rifle. Not only was the frame noticeably slimmer than other Glocks I've held, but the contours of the back and front straps were also comfortable. The G42 trigger does not have the trigger ridges of other Glocks, and the blade is also smaller. As with everything else about the G42, the goodness stops there.

The trigger was a beast, it felt closer to 8-10 pounds than the advertised 5.5 pounds. It was a stubborn one that required a lot of pressure to get to the break. I can't say if this can be said for the entire G42 or this, but it was very uncomfortable and made it difficult to place the gun accurately. Reverse round nose 90 gr. I had a feeding issue but was low on ammo for the session so I couldn't tell if it was a magazine, ammo or gun issue. Reading some reviews online, it seems that eating disorders are not uncommon. Most Glock safety experts say "You're just limping" or "Your fingers are hitting the slide, preventing recoil." I suspect it's the dual springs (sound familiar, Gen 4 owners?) or the ammo, or a combination of the two.

I brought the G26 Gen3 to compare Glock's previous flagship as a subcompact. 42 is thinner in the scope department at 24 mm / 0.94 inches, but slightly wider than the Keltec P3AT or Ruger LCP. The grip length on the 42 is the same length as the grip on the 26, which can leave the pinky finger hanging in the air for some average sized shooters. The barrel is 3.25 inches, and the capacity is only 6 rounds of standard factory magazines, which is very common for pocket guns in its class. The bezel thumbsticks have been redesigned as a small plain bezel instead, and I found them to be small. the frame makes sense and I still feel like I can get a good buy with it.

With the trigger and channel issues with the G42, I was able to shoot better with the G26. But this can be changed to the time spent after the trigger.

Overall, I think the Glock 42 is a great idea that has been tested and perfected to solve some of the problems many people are looking for. Perhaps the 2014 SHOT Show release was under a lot of pressure from the sales/marketing departments, which led to the questionable "perfectness" of this model. Either way, the G42 fits into a growing field every year as CCW license holders grow and the market moves toward CCW-centric single-stack models. The noise has led to a shortage of .380 autos, as the rare .22lr is in my area, I'd like to get a stack of 9mm as well. So far the G42 is hard to put down and I would encourage everyone to try it on for size. Just be aware of its shortcomings, lower your expectations for the first performance, and maybe just maybe you will take it home and it will work properly.

Claim to Fame: The USA-made G42 is the smallest pistol GLOCK has ever produced, making it perfect for carrying in a pocket and shooting with small hands.
